According to the state weather forecasters, typhoon Pepeng may not bring heavy rains like Ondoy but it will bring disastrous winds. As of 12 noon, Pepeng’s speed was recorded at 24 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, packing maximum wind of 175 kph and gustiness of 201 kph. It was spotted 510 km east of Borongan, Samar. It is expected to make a landfall in Aurora province on Saturday morning.

According to the PAGASA bulletins, areas with signal No. 1 are Bicol provinces, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes. Pepeng packed maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 24 kph. By Friday morning, it is expected to be 310 km east of Virac in Catanduanes. On Saturday morning it is expected to be 190 km north of Virac or 310 km southeast of Tuguegarao City. The eastern section of the country will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Bicol region which may trigger flash floods and landslides. The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Eastern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and coming from the southwest and south over the rest of the country. Coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.
